If you're on holiday with all the family, Les Palmeres might just prove itself to be the restaurant that settles all of the arguments. With a large outdoor barbecue area, Les Palmeres offers a wide range of meats, vegetables and seafoods, all charred beautifully on the giant grill - there should be something here for everybody.

A large outdoor terrace adds to its appeal for a balmy summer evening. The food at Les Palmeres Restaurant
Brasseries are a popular concept in Cambrils and Les Palmeres is one of the most popular. These restaurants offer food cooked on a large grill, giving it a delicious barbecued flavour. Having already tasted the seafood delights that Cambrils had to offer, I took the opportunity to try a selection of meats. A Les Palmeres speciality is the Parrillada - this is a traditionally Argentinian dish, offering a platter of different meats, like a mixed grill. My parrillada included a beef steak, a lamb steak, a pork chop, two sausages and a chicken leg.
Despite the steaks being relatively small, this was still very good value. With a few side dishes the parrillada could definitely suffice as an evening meal for two people. The flavour of the meats was simple, with no real seasonings added. However, this suited the style of the dish, as the barbecued meat flavours were satisfying and delicious by themselves. Other meat dishes on offer included barbecued quail and barbecued rabbit.
Alongside the large meats menu, there is an equally large fish one, with all manner of fish options available to be barbecued. Similar to the meat parrillada, it is possible to order a seafood platter, offering a variety of grilled seafood. Side dishes include bread and salad.
The decor at Les Palmeres Restaurant
Les Palmeres's crowning glory is its outdoor area. It offers a large amount of seating in a patio area that is surrounded by trees and bushes to give the diners some privacy. It can be entered through a large archway bearing the restaurant's name and acting as a welcoming gateway to the cosy interior. In the corner of the patio area is the large grill - allowing you to watch the chef at work. A central running fountain adds some ornament to the surroundings and palm trees dotted around the terrace give it a tropical summertime backdrop.
The tables are covered in traditional chequered tablecloths and flickering candles provide an intimate setting for an evening meal. These is also an indoor area to the restaurant, that is likely to be of appeal during the winter months- this is traditionally Spanish in its style. There are tiled terracotta floors and wooden features on the walls. The tables and chairs are also, wooden, with white table cloths.
The service at Les Palmeres Restaurant
As seems to be the norm in central Cambrils restaurants, the staff at Les Palmeres are able to converse with diners in a range of languages, including Catalan, Castellano, French, German and English. The menus are also available in all of these languages. On my arrival at the restaurant I was made to feel at home instantly as a friendly waitress welcomed me to the table with a smile and some complimentary slices of chorizo.
Service throughout the meal was prompt and helpful - my requests for extra wine and sauces were dealt with immediately When I visited the atmosphere in the restaurant was still bustling and nearly every outdoor table was full, despite it being towards the end of the season.
In a nutshell
Les Palmeres has many of the elements necessary for a perfect summer holiday restaurant: an outdoor seating area with palm trees, a charcoal barbecue and a menu for all the family, complete with penguin shaped ice cream for pudding! The restaurant won't suit if you are hoping to sample some of the Michelin style delights that Cambrils has to offer, but its atmosphere, friendly staff and affordable menu make it hard not to have fun during a trip to Les Palmeres.
